Our Inspection Process

What to Expect From Your Home Inspection
A thoughtful, in-person review helps us understand your home and make sure your coverage reflects what it would take to rebuild it.
Why We Inspect Every Home
Every home is different. An in-person inspection helps us understand your home’s construction, features, condition, and replacement cost so we can make sure the coverage we recommend reflects the home you actually own.
It also helps us determine whether the property is a good fit for Mutual Assurance. We’ve taken this careful approach to underwriting for generations because getting the details right at the beginning helps create a better experience over the long term.
What Happens During the Inspection

What Are We Looking For?
This isn’t the same as a real estate home inspection.
We’re primarily trying to understand the characteristics of your home that affect insurance eligibility and replacement cost—things like construction type, age, roof, electrical and heating systems, interior finishes, additions, detached structures, and unique architectural details.
Preparing for Your Inspection
A little preparation can make the visit easier.
Please make sure the inspector can access:
-
the interior of the home
-
basement, attic, or crawl space when applicable
-
electrical and mechanical areas
-
garages and other structures on the property
You do not need to clean or prepare your home as though you're showing it for sale. We’re there to understand the property—not judge how you live in it.
After the inspection
Once the inspection is complete, our underwriting team reviews the information along with the other details about your home. If we need additional information, we’ll let you know. Once the review is complete, we can finalize eligibility and the coverage amount for the property.
