Who We Are
Mutual Assurance is a society of approximately 20,000 members in Virginia who have joined together to insure each other’s homes. Founded in 1794, we have protected some of Virginia’s famous historic houses, along with the homes of many of your neighbors and friends.

What makes us unique?
Mutual Assurance continues to use the same business model that was established when the company was founded in 1794. We offer a perpetual homeowner policy that never expires as long as the conditions of membership are met. New applicants pay a one-time premium to become a member, followed by low annual assessments that are a fraction of the premium. This means significant savings over the life of the policy.
It is the way home insurance was meant to be.
Virginia's best-kept secret
For the past 229 years, Mutual Assurance has relied primarily on referrals from current members for new business. Membership is such a great deal that our members love to share the secret with their friends and family members. In fact, generations of Virginia families have insured their homes with us as a result.
