The Virginia Housing Market Broke Records in 2021

More than 150,000 homes were sold in Virginia in 2021 setting a new record for the Commonwealth,

according to a report from Virginia Realtors.


Here are the statistics:

• 154,340 homes sold statewide representing a 10.2% increase over 2020.


• The median sales price was $350,000, a $30,000 jump or 9.4% increase over the previous year.


• As of December 31, 2021, there were 13,469 active listings, a 24.2% drop from 2020 (4300 fewer listings).


Total sold volume for 2021 was $66.8 billion, a 22% increase over 2020 ($12.1 billion).


• Homes were on the market an average of 25 days, a 56% drop in listing time from 2020 (down from 39- day average).


• The majority of home sales were in the first 75 days of the year with a cooling market in the fall.
